据外媒报道，由 Netflix 制作的改编自经典动画《星际牛仔》真人剧现已正式杀青，该剧最早于 2017 年公布，2019 年开机，不过上线时间暂未公布。
Netflix《星际牛仔》最早于 2019 年在新西兰开拍，当时计划拍摄时间长达 6-7 个月，但由于主演 John Cho 在片场受伤，拍摄仅进行了几天就不得不推迟。在主演康复的这段时间，Netflix 对剧本进行了进一步的打磨，并请来了原作动画导演渡边信一郎担任制作顾问，着手第二季的早期制作。此后由于疫情在全球的蔓延，本剧直到 2020 年 9 月才开始重新开机。昨日在剧中饰演菲‧瓦伦坦的英国女演员 notdaniellapineda 在 instagram 上宣布《星际牛仔》第一季拍摄工作已经结束。
原版《星际牛仔》是由日本 SUNRISE 动画公司于 1998 年制作的原创电视动画，讲述了 2071 年一群星际旅行者组队成为赏金猎人的故事。被认为是与《阿基拉》、《攻壳机动队》、《新世纪福音战士》比肩的经典之作。
Netflix《星际牛仔》第一季共十集，由 Michael Katleman 和 Alex Garcia Lopez（《巫师》导演）执导，Christopher Yost（《曼达洛人》《雷神》编剧）以及 Javier Grillo-Marxuach serving 担任编剧。Mustafa Shakir 饰演杰特·布莱克，John Cho 饰演斯派克，Elena Satine 饰演茱莉娅。
