微软旗下的 Xbox 游戏平台相信众多玩家一定不会陌生，但它拥有的独家游戏数量远远不及对手索尼，所以在今年的 E3 上，微软就宣布收购 5 家游戏工作室，试图解决这个问题。5 家之中的 4 家相信众多 Xbox 粉丝都应该不陌生，因为都是常年合作的伙伴：Undead Labs（制作《腐烂国度》）、Playground Games（制作《极限竞速：地平线》）、Ninja Theory（制作《地狱之刃：塞娜的献祭》）和 Compulsion Games （制作《少数幸运儿》），最后一家则是 The Initiative，它由前 Crystal Dynamics 的 CEO Darrell Gallagher 成立，《古墓丽影》的重制就是由他带领，并在 4 月时加入微软。
不过这些加入只是壮大独家游戏数量的举措之一，更重要的是微软能否成功通过广纳人才，最终实现追赶并超过索尼的目标。
