根据 The New York Times 的报道，美国时间上周六，被誉为美国波普艺术运动 “英雄” 的艺术家 Robert Indiana 因呼吸衰竭逝世，享年 89 岁。Robert Indiana 本名为 Robert Clark，他最为人所熟知的代表作要数 “LOVE”。1965 年 MoMA 邀请 Robert Indiana 绘制圣诞贺卡，艺术家回想青年时期参加教会时的海报，上面就印着 “Love is God”，因此他便用红绿蓝三种颜色的加粗字体绘制出 “LOVE” 这四个字母，经典的 “LOVE” 便正式诞生。后来 Robert Indiana 还创作了 “LOVE” 雕塑，四个字母分两行排列，其中 “O” 则刻意左斜。2008 年奥巴马当选总统候选人之时，Indiana 还曾把 “LOVE” 换成了 “HOPE”。
Robert Indiana 早已是公认的美国波普艺术的代表人物，“LOVE” 也成为了一枚经典的流行文化符号，甚至掩盖了艺术家其他作品的光芒。直至逝世前 Robert Indiana 一直都是隐居状态，愿他为天堂带去 “LOVE”。
