据外媒报道，曾负责动画《辛普森一家》（The Simpsons）和《瑞克和莫蒂》（Rick and Morty）制作的 J. Michael Mendel 于上周日晚上在家中去世，享年 54 岁，目前死因未知。
1989 年，Mendel 加入《辛普森一家》的制作，并在 1995 年、97 年和 98 年连续三次凭此获得艾美奖。作为美国历史上最长寿的情景喜剧及动画节目，《辛普森一家》对流行文化产生了极大的影响。Mendel 于 2013 年开始制作热门动画《瑞克和莫蒂》，脑洞大开的剧情及深刻的内在主题也被许多人认为是最佳神剧。2018 年，他凭借此部动画第四次荣膺艾美奖。
《瑞克和莫蒂》的播出方 Adult Swim 电视台于周一发表声明，称他是该剧制作团队的核心人物：“ 我们所有人都为 Michael Mendel 的早逝感到震惊……Mike 是一位广受尊敬的艾美奖获奖制作人。他在这个行业工作了 25 年，指导并支持了一代艺术家、作家和创作者。整个行业都会为他的离世感到惋惜。”《瑞克与莫蒂》的联合主创 Justin Roiland 也在 Twitter 发推悼念：“没有你在身边，我不知道怎么办才好。我崩溃了。”
